KMHA Update
Submitted By KMHA on Friday, June 25, 2021
Good afternoon hockey family.
The summer is upon us, and we are in planning mode for next season. Currently we are finishing collecting any outstanding jerseys from our teams and then issuing refunds for the remainder of the season. If you are with the house league and have not yet received your refund, please reach out to the Hockey office and we can confirm your refund and the date it was issued to assist you in tracking it down.  If you are a Rep or Local League player and you have questions, please do not hesitate to check with your coaches to ensure jerseys were returned or reach out to the office to enquire about the state of your refund.

In recent days KMHA has had many questions regarding the future plans for Hockey and we wanted to provide you with the following updates

Reopening:   Waterloo Region has been delayed entering Step 2 of the Provincial Reopening Plan. Announcement here.  Currently the arenas that we would use to offer programs are not open and are not likely to open until we reach Step 3.  Even if Waterloo Region were in Step 2 with other regions the legislation for return to sport does not include indoor programs.  The Provincial Regulations can be found here. It is our hope that we can return to on ice training and offering summer programming in Step 3.  Should anything change and we are able to offer training programs earlier we will update our website.  KMHA continues to explore options while ensuring we are following all protocols and keeping players safe.

Registration:  Registration for next season can be expected to open in the near future with Girls Registration opening first and then Boys registration opening as it becomes available.   Last year there was a delay in Girls’ registration as the OWHA switched online registration providers and this year is the Boys' turn.  The Boys' program is moving to the new Hockey Canada HCR 3.0 program and all functionality is not currently available. To protect your money and ensure a smooth registration process KMHA is deciding to hold off on opening registration until the program has online payment and reporting complete to a satisfactory level. This is a move being made by other local Alliance centers in response to the readiness of the program.   Please watch carefully for opening updates.  Late registration fees are expected to be delayed giving ample time for people to register.

Fall Tryouts:

Alliance Programming - There are many changes coming to the tryout process and KMHA wishes to communicate these in a clear and concise fashion. We will be posting information online regarding the changes in the coming weeks. After these sessions we will post all Tryout changes and protocols on the website.

OWHA programming – We are awaiting full instruction from the OWHA regarding Tryout and player pathway changes, and we will communicate these in a timely fashion once announced. Should the changes be significant we will also post online the changes.
