Greetings from the Prime Minister

January 22, 2012

I am delighted to extend my warmest greetings to all those participating in Kitchener Girls Hockey Day.

This year marks the inauguration of what I hope will become an annual tradition. A day dedicated to girls’ hockey promotes the sport and the leadership, teamwork and athleticism it fosters. These are the qualities that have epitomized the tremendous success of Canadian women’s hockey, from the community level all the way up to our golden national women’s team.

Hockey is integral to what defines us as a nation and unites our communities from coast to coast to coast. Canada has been a leader in the growth of women’s hockey around the globe and enjoyed tremendous competitive success along the way. I commend the organizers of this wonderful event for inspiring the next generation of talented young players to build on that proud legacy.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer you my best wishes for a great day of hockey.

Sincerely,

The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada
