Minor Atom AAA are Champs at Markham Tourney
The Kitchener Jr Rangers Minor Atom AAA won the Markham Majors Fall Classic Tournament on Thanksgiving weekend
The Jr Rangers Minor Atom AAA captured the championship in a very competitive early season tournament. The players should be commended for their outstanding effort, awesome focus and very consistent "Ranger Hockey" execution over the 5 tournament games.
The tournament opened with convincing wins against Markham's two home town teams, the Waxers and the Majors. In the 3rd round robin game, the Jr Rangers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead against the York Simcoe Express before hanging on for a gutsy 4-2 victory. The Oakville Rangers, also sitting at 3-0 were the opponents in the final round robin game on Sunday morning. Kitchener fought back from a 2-0 deficit, scoring a thrilling 6 on 4 goal, on the power play with the goalie pulled, in the final minute of the 3rd period to draw even at 2-2 and set the stage for another Ranger duel in the Sunday afternoon final. Our Jr Ranger players would not be denied the championship, saving their best for last in a 1-0 shutout victory against an Oakville team that is highly rated in the province.
On behalf of the coaching staff, I would like to extend congratulations to the 03 Jr Rangers for their much deserved tournament win. We are very proud of our players 100% committment to our club's "team first" philosophy and we are hopeful that this victory will act as a building block toward a successful season and a great hockey experience for the players and their families.
League play continues this weekend where the Jr Rangers currently sit in 1st place with a 5-0 regular season record in the Alliance Pavillion AAA East Division (31 GF 5 GA).
