Kitchener Jr. Rangers Minor Midget AAA Alliance Finalists prepare for OHL Cup
The Kitchener Jr. Rangers Minor Midget AAA Hockey club lost
6 points to 2 (3 games to 1) against Waterloo Wolves.
Waterloo finished 1st overall in the Alliance division with
Kitchener finishing 5th overall.
In the playoffs Kitchener showed that hard work, discipline and
determination can provide a team with an opportunity for success. Despite finishing the season 18 points behind
Waterloo, Kitchener worked hard and made Waterloo earn their championship.
Waterloo took game 1 2-0 in a battle that went right to the final whistle.
In game 2 Waterloo scored an empty net goal to win 3-1.
Game 3 in Waterloo had Kitchener facing elimination. Kitchener showed that when faced with adversity they answer the call shutting Waterloo out 3-0.
Game 4 back in Kitchener saw two teams battle to the final buzzer in front of a full Activa arena. Tied 3-3 in a see-saw battle heading in the 3rd period Waterloo capitalized on a power play to take a 4-3 lead. Kitchener continued to press and despite hitting goalposts and having close calls Waterloo’s stingy defense and goaltending kept the visitors ahead until Waterloo added an empty net goal in the dying minutes of play to win 5-3 and claim the Alliance Championship.
As Alliance finalists Kitchener now prepare for the OHL Cup March 12-16 at Buckingham arena in Toronto where they will face the top 20 teams in Ontario and Michigan. This is the first time a Kitchener Minor Midget AAA team has attended this prestigious event.
At the OHL Cup Kitchener will face:
Wednesday March 12 – OMHA Champion at 12:30 pm
Wednesday March 12 – Thunder Bay at 7:00 pm
Thursday March 13 – TPH Thunder (USA) at 2:15 pm
Friday March 14 – Vaughan Kings at 5:15 pm
Saturday March 15 – Quarter finals and Semi finals
Sunday March 16 – Finals
