OHL Cup Schedule Set For Kitchener Minor Midget AAA
The Kitchener Jr. Rangers Minor Midget AAA hockey club will be the first Kitchener Minor Midget team to attend the OHL Cup March 11-16 at Buckingham Arena in Toronto.

Wednesday March 12 – 12:15pm v Whitby Wildcats OMHA Champions

 

Wednesday March 12 – 7:00 pm v Thunder Bay Kings from Hockey Northwest

 

Thursday March 13 – 2:15 pm v TPH Thunder (USA)

 

Friday March 14 – 5:15 pm v Vaughan Kings GTHL

 

 

The Road to the OHL Cup.

 

The Jr. Rangers finished 3rd in the Eastern Conference and 5th overall in the Alliance.  In the first round of playoffs the team faced the 6th place Hamilton Huskies and eliminated them 3-0.  Kitchener then moved on to the quarter finals where they faced the Lambton Jr. Sting.  Lambton finished 2nd in the West Division and 4th overall.   After winning game 1 at home the Jr. Rangers lost games 2 and 3 in Lambton.  The Jr. Rangers regrouped winning game 4 at home and game 5 on the road in Lambton to advance to the semi-finals.

 

In the Semi-finals the Jr. Rangers faced the Chatham-Kent Cyclones.  Chatham upset the Huron Perth Lakers in the quarter final series.  The semi-final series was a battle back and forth that went to triple overtime of the 6th and deciding game before the Jr. Rangers prevailed with a 5-4 victory to advance to the Alliance finals and an automatic berth in the OHL Cup.

 

In the Alliance finals the Jr. Rangers faced off against their cross town rivals the Waterloo Wolves.  Waterloo finished 1st overall in the Alliance and lead the league in goals for and allowed the fewest against..  Every game was a tight battle.  Kitchener’s 3-0 victory in game 3 was the largest goal spread of any of the games.  Waterloo prevailed winning the series 3-1 and gaming the Alliance Championship.

Tournament Info

The 2014 OHL Showcase Cup tournament takes place March 11-16 and features 20 of the top minor midget teams in Ontario and the USA. The champions and finalists from minor hockey associations in Ontario, including the GTHL, OMHA, ODMHA and ALLIANCE are participating in the tournament. In addition a team from Hockey Northwestern Ontario and the NOHA will compete.

The 2014 Ontario Hockey League Showcase for the OHL Cup hosted by the GTHL opens Tuesday March 11 with round robin games continuing throughout the day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Buckingham Arena in Toronto. The playoffs will begin with the Quarter-Finals on Saturday morning with two Semi-Final games Saturday night.  The Championship Final will take place on Sunday afternoon.
