Weekend Warriors
We were in Guelph this past weekend attending the Guelph Powerplay Tournament. We were determined to control our own fate and the boys delivered.

On Friday we had 2 games to open up the tournament against Kitchener MD Red and Whitby Wildcats. In our first game we came out and were determined to do the little things right and be first to the puck cruising to victory. In the second game Whitby worked hard early but we overcame the early charge and out skated them to a 5-1 victory to end day 1 of the tournament 2 an 0.

On Saturday we played the HamiltonTigers and Guelph Gryffins. In the Hamilton game we came out a little flat but held a closely contested 1-0 lead into the third period eventually giving up the tying goal with under a minute to play and in the end settling for a 1-1 tie. In the second game we were focused and came out on fire against Guelph. We out worked Guelph for three periods and won 6-1 moving onto the Semi's on Sunday against Hamilton Tigers. In the other Semi Kitchener Red moved on to face the Whitby Wildcats and possibly set up an all Kitchener final.

The all Kitchener final was not meant to be as we proceeded to beat the Hamilton Tigers in our Semi but Kitchener Red lost to Whitby in a nailbiter in the other Semi.

The finals were now set between us and Whitby Wildcats! This game was a great contest but our boys saw no other option but coming away Champions. We again came out on fire and took an early lead dominating in the early going. We had a 4-0 lead at one point but Whitby never gave up and pressured us to make it 4-2 in the third. We took a timeout to settle the boys back down and it seemed all was well until we surrendered the 4-3 goal on a broken play. The boys used what little gas they had left in the tank to fight off Whitby one last time and score to make it 5-3 thus crowning us CHAMPIONS!

It was a great tournament and again I think we learned a little bit about ourselves and what it takes to win. The entire coaching staff was so proud of what they accomplished.

Congratulations!
