Kitchener Bloodline
The City of Kitchener has long been a very dedicated and passionate Hockey Town, it has grown with the times, and its deep roots and evolution can still be found in all of the local rinks. Allison and Amanda proudly wear the Kitchener name on their shoulders as part of their third season with the Kitchener Lady Rangers. Hockey is in their blood, and it can be traced all the way back to local Legend and Hockey Hall of Famer, Milt Schmidt.

Born and raised in Kitchener on Stanley St, Milt was very much a part of Kitchener Hockey, having played extensively with both the Kitchener Empires and Kitchener Greenshirts. Born Milton Conrad Schmidt in 1918, Milt would go on to not just a spectacular playing career with two Stanley Cup wins (1939, 1941) with the Boston Bruins, he would move on to Coaching and ultimately the General Managing position bringing two more Stanley Cups to the team (1970, 1972).

Not only was Milt Schmidt a fierce and passionate competitor on the ice but he, along with Kitchener natives and Boston Bruins teammates Bobby Bauer and Woody Dumart, served with the Canadian Military enlisting in 1942 and serving overseas during World War II. Before departing the three spent time playing Hockey for the Ottawa RCAF team winning the Allen Cup.

Upon their return from service Milt and his teammates continued their scoring prowess in the NHL with Milt being named Captain of the Bruins in 1951, the same year he won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the Most Valuable Player.

Milt Schmidt received Hockey’s biggest honor in 1961 as he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. On October 6th, 2010 Milt was celebrated by the Bruins and the town of Boston for 75 years of service and raised his own number 15 to the rafters at TD Gardens.

Player, Coach, General Manager, War Hero, Hockey Legend are only a few of the great achievements of a Man who has given so much to his Communities and his Country, and by simply taking the time to read the large wall display proudly enshrined for the famous Kraut Line in the halls of the Kitchener Auditorium is enough to inspire.

Although at 95 years of age, Milt has long been removed from playing hockey, his spirit and commitment can still be seen in glimpses of two passionate young women as they carry a heavy hockey lineage into every rink they play at. It is the same pride, passion and perseverance that took a young Kitchener man from a job at a shoe factory at the age of 14 making 18 cents an hour, to the very pinnacle of success.

As twin sisters, Allison and Amanda have a bright future ahead together and as individuals, and if they carry a very small piece of the spirit that Milt Schmidt has always shown, that future gets brighter. Hockey is in their blood, Hockey is in their heart and the admiration the feel for a beloved member of their Family, their Community and their Country, will be just as everlasting. Have a Great Weekend Girls, and we send with you nothing but the most heartfelt appreciation for such a National Treasure.

P.S as a side note, Milt also became the General Manager of the expansion Washington Captials (my favorite Club) in the very year I was born 1975. A true inspiration to fledgling General Managers like myself.
