KJR Minor Midgets Meet Hamilton in Quarter Finals
The KJR Minor Midget AAA hockey club finished 4th in the regular season and will meet Hamilton Huskies in the Alliance Quarter Finals.
These same two teams met in last year's playoffs. Hamilton, who finished 2nd overall last year, advanced to the Alliance Bantam finals. The eliminated 8th place Kitchener 3-2 in their quarter final series.
This year Kitchener finished 4th in the Alliance with a 20-9-4 record scoring 116 while giving up 59 goals. The Huskies, who lost in the Bantam Alliance Finals last year finished 5th with a 17-7-9 record. Hamilton scored 113 goals while giving up 65. These teams are very evening matched as their season series resulted in a 1-1-1 record for each team.
In early October they faced each other for the first time since last year's playoffs and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Kitchener outshot Hamilton 34-16 and went 1/3 on the power play while Hamilton went 1/5 on the power play.
They met for the second time at the end of October when Kitchener traveled to Hamilton to face them at Chedoke arena. Kitchener came out on top of that game 5-1. The Jr. Rangers outshot Hamilton 32-23 while going 2/4 on the power play. Hamilton was 0/6.
The Jr. Rangers and Huskies faced off for the final time this past week when the Jr. Rangers made a second trip to Hamilton. Hamilton's power play was on fire going 3/6 and powering their way to a 6-4 victory. Kitchener outshot Hamilton 35-21 but didn't capitalize on their power plays going 0/3.
