Golden Delicious? All Eyes On Apple Festival
The Belles in Blue have their bags packed and are ready to head east to Clarington, Ontario, and with the annual Apple Festival in town, these girls know there are no baked good sweeter than gold. After what can only be described as a frustrating opening weekend for the Lady Rangers, everyone has their sights set on a battle further down the 401.

On opening day, Kitchener dropped its home opener to a feisty London team. Both teams battled hard in a game that featured 7 minor penalties and even a penalty shot that Goalkeeper K. Mark deftly kicked aside. But the revolving door to the sin bin would prove costly as the Rangers struggled to push back trailing 1-0 late in the third and spending the final 3 minutes with one or more girls in the box.

Sunday the visiting Lady Rangers had their hands full with the fleet footed and aggressive fore checking of the Grand River Mustangs, the game winner coming with yet another blue shirt taking a two minute time out, Kitchener fell 2-0. When called for comment at his sprawling rural estate we were told that Coach Bender was not available as he was ‘mapping out a parade route’ (Quote may or may not be historically accurate). The Rangers next regular season game will be against these same Purple Ponies.

This year’s Rangers are not prepared to let these two first games affect them as they move towards their first tournament, the Players and Staff are determined to learn from it and grow. This weekend they will meet opponents from throughout the Peewee BB division, first up on Friday will be the Markham-Stouffville Stars and similarly named Kanata Lady Rangers. Saturday’s matchups feature contests with the always aggressive Belleville Bearcats and the Home Town Clarington Flames.

Our Kitchener Lady Rangers are reminded that where ever they go, as long as they are wearing the familiar blue, red and white logo they are supported by the entire community they leave behind. Lady Rangers are not only encouraged by their home towns, they are also always respectful to not only each other but also to the host communities that have invited their hard working brand of Hockey, and to the Girls and Staff of the other Teams with whom they will battle on the ice. Kitchener is known not only for its Love of The Game, but also for the Respect they have for everyone involved in making it the Greatest Game in the World.

Best of Luck to not only the Kitchener Lady Ranger Peewee BB team, but as well to our friends and Hockey Family of the Lady Ranger Peewee A team who will be competing at the Clarington Apple Fest as well. Stay for the Apples, but come home with the Gold.
