DO OR DO NOT... THERE IS NO COMEBACK THIS TIME
The mighty Irish Pirates battled hard right to the end but their comeback effort was thwarted by the onslaught of the surging Lions. Down 2-1, the Pirates tied it up early in the third period to set up a tight finish to this top-of-the-bracket skirmish. Unfortunately for the Irish Pirate faithful, the Lions prevailed with only 1:20 remaining in the third to put the game on ice.

Penalty trouble early on had the Pirates fighting for their lives in the first period. An untimely "Too Many Men" call had the team scrambling to kill off the penalty. Coach J, after sending the new D-men a pinch too early said, "That one's on me! Sorry boys!" Despite the incredibly effective PK, the Lions got off to a roaring (Get it? Lions... roaring?!) (It's like the Tigers joke last week, only BETTER! BECAUSE THEY'RE LIONS!!!) OMG. start, scoring first to get the ball rolling.

Not to be outdone, Eli answered back for the Pirates only 38 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1 and bring the Pirates heavy artillery into the fray. The Lions went back onto the power play when one of the Pirate D was forced take direct measures to prevent a Lion winger from breaking in all alone on the Pirate net. After a tense two minutes, the Pirates had braved the charge and emerged from the onslaught unscathed. Sadly, a short while later the Lions went up 2-1.

The third period started off well when Brandon, the Pirate power forward turned and fired a quick one from the left face off dot past the hog-tied Lions goalie when the puck was centred out by some clever fore checking along the boards. Early in the third period the score was all tied up once again, 2-2.

Unfortunately, the Pirates could only hold this pride of hungry Lions at bay for so long as they continued to press the Pirate net. Two goals midway and late in the third sealed the Pirates fate and handed them their first loss of the season.

Stay tuned for next week's nail-biting result against the Rattlers! ARRGH!!
