Great Effort KJR MD Red!
KJR Red rolled into Pittsburgh for some tough matchups in the Veteran's Cup. In the first game of the tournament, the team came out a little flat after sitting around until late Friday to play.  The game ended in a tie 3-3 against Halton Hills Thunder MD. After the game, the coaches and players discussed the team's performance and the players committed themselves to come out with a better effort in our second game. Facing a stronger MT Lebanon Hornets AA team, the boys knew they were in for a tough game against the home team. The boys came out on fire and battled hard for an impressive 4-1 win.

The final preliminary game was against the Vaughan Panthers A team who were undefeated going into the tournament. The team came out in top gear and got contributions from evryone.   When the buzzer sounded, KJR Red had handed Vaughan their first loss of the season winning the game 4-2. With the win, Kitchener placed 1st and punched their ticket to the Championship game.

The Championship ended up being a re-match against Vaughan.  After an exciting first period, the score remained tied 0-0. At the end of the second, KJR Red had fallen behind 1-0 when Vaughan scored on a 5-on-4 powerplay. The boys refused to give up and kept battling hard to tie the game.  Unfortunately, the team got into some penalty trouble again in the third and fell behind by 2 when Vaughan scored on a 5-on-3 powerplay.  KJR kept pressing though and were able to generate a number of great scoring opportunities.  With a few minutes left, KJR Red pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with a man in the box.  The team peppered Vaughan with eveything they had left, eventually popping one in with 15 seconds left.  The boys went for one more rush, getting it deep in Vaughan's end, but were unable to tie the game. While it was a tough loss for the boys, the coaches were very impressed with what the team had accomplished in the last two days.

Congrats KJR Red!  Heads held high boys ...lots of hockey left to play this year!
