KJR Atom MD
Red was one of sixteen MD teams entered in the
Brantford 46th Annual
Wayne Gretzky International Tournament.
To win the division, it was going to take 7 games over 4 days.
Day 1 saw the Rangers pick up their first
two wins with 6-1 win over Flamborough Sabres, followed by a 5-3 victory over
the Paris Wolfpack. Day 2 started early,
but got off to exciting start with the team loading up their gear onto the OHL
Rangers' bus. The boys travelled in
style for the day on their way to two more wins against Stoney Creek Jr.
Warriors (5-3) and Ajax Knights (6-2).
On Day 3 the Rangers met the Paris Wolfpack for a second time in the Quarter-Finals. The game went back-and-forth, eventually going into a “99 minute” 3 on 3 overtime period. At 92:11 the Rangers popped one in and was off to the Semi-Finals against Centre Wellington Fusion. In another tight game, the Rangers toppled the Fusion 2-1. The Finals would see the Rangers face the Stoney Creek Jr Warriors in a rematch from the round-robin. The Warriors pressed the Rangers early and opened the scoring in the second period to go up 1-0. The Rangers dug deep and tied it up early in the third. Working hard late in the game, the Rangers snuck-in the go-ahead goal. With the championship on the line, KJR battled hard right to the buzzer and won Gold!
Congrats KJR Red on another great effort!
