And with three seconds remaining....
The first round of the 2015 -2016 LLFHL playoffs are complete and what a round it was!

After 22 regular season games, the Kitchener Lady Rangers opened the first round of the Central Division playoffs against the Owen Sound Hawks. The ladies travelled to Owen Sound for the opening game on the coldest day of the season. The opening period saw the ladies have many great scoring opportunities with several goals unfortunately being called back. Some stellar goaltending on the part of the Hawks kept the game scoreless going into the break. With just under five to go, the ladies finally got one that “counted”. However, with the goalie pulled for a sixth skater, the Hawks managed to tie it up with 50 seconds remaining to split game one with a point each.

A “Valentines” day later back in Kitchener, the ladies continued their strong play and left no doubt on the scoring of “good” goals. Two quick power play markers in the first followed by a great “lane” drive pass to “Lane” who went top shelf put the ladies up by three. Consistently smart choices and options gave the ladies a well-deserved two points with the third and deciding game back in Kitchener.

A week later, the stage was set for a one game winner take all at the Activa Spotrtsplex. After a scoreless first, the Hawks opened the scoring to take a 1 – 0 lead into the break. A “penalty shot” in the third put the Hawks up by “two” and it appeared the game would be headed to a sudden death overtime period.

One consistent part of the ladies game this season has been their “never say die” attitude and game three was no exception. While the Hawks may have been planning their overtime strategy, the ladies continued their hard work and with “1:17” left on the clock, brought the game within “one”. While “50 seconds” may have been a heart breaker for the Lady Rangers in game one, “3 seconds” was a dagger for the Hawks in game three. As we have discussed many times, games are a full “42:00”, not “41:10” and certainly not “41:57”. Thanks to all the Hawks ladies for a great first round. Best of luck at Provincials.

On behalf of Bill, Ken, Sarah and Tim, congratulations on your first round win. Everyone had a role to play and did so with resolve. We are proud of EVERYONE’s efforts!

Welcome to round two!
