Blue Busting Out
Okay, here's the recent games.  The first game after the tournament was against Ravens 2.  They scored 5 lucky goals, and Aspen scored our only goal with an assist by her center Avery.  I wish I could say more, but I was still sleeping at that time of a Saturday morning.  Perhaps someone could explain the concept of sleeping in on a Saturday to Waterloo.

Next we traveled to Wilmot to face Wolverines 1.  They had some skaters and seemed to have a particular interest in keeping Avery in check (can't imagine why).  We kept a clean sheet in the penalty department with our little ruffian getting the only penalty in the second for hooking.  (I blame it on Helio, obviously).  The team played well, employing some of the systems that we've been working on.  Cayla opened the scoring with an unassisted goal early in the first to set the tone, her first of the season, but not her last the way she's been playing.  Aspen followed a couple of minutes later putting in another rebound goal following up on a good shot by Avery.  The final goal in this 3-0 win was a good point shot by Taylor Keating - first of the season for Taylor - with assists from Brittany and Aspen.  It's great to see balanced scoring with a couple assists on most goals - keep moving the puck and working the point.

Our game this morning against the Hericanes was full of offense, a result of hard work during practices and bringing that work to the game.  Can I also add that Alex's new name is offense.  Alex opened the scoring early in the first, assisted by Fionna who had a couple of excellent scoring opportunities throughout the game - keep it going Fionna.  The game stayed 1-0 until early in the 3rd when Alex put in a rebound from Sierra's drive to the net.  Moments later Aspen kept her goal streak alive by putting one past the Twin Center minder, unassisted.  (I'm glad you decided to keep this streak going rather than your penalty blitz - now we'll have to call you little sniper).  Alex decided it was time to return the favour as Sierra put one of Alex's rebounds in the cage.  But they weren't done there, Alex put in her 3rd for the natural hat trick with assists by both Sierra and Fionna, and topped off her performance with an unassisted marker only seconds later.  The points were the result of the excellent effort of the entire team - the defense shut down every Hericanes push and initiated good breakouts, the first and second lines drew the attention of their best attackers (and they had some good skaters), and the tenders shut the door as usual.  Overall, best game of the season to move us up in the standings 4 places over the past 3 days to put us in 5th.  Tomorrow's game against the second Wilmot team is going to be interesting as we play our final game of the first half of the season.  Go Blue Go!
