Reaching another level!
It was definitely the most exciting game of the season. Not only were we playing on the big ice, but we were facing off against the best team of the first half who went a perfect 10-0 with 29 goals for and only 2 against. We knew we were in tough to earn even a point in this one. We had an early team meeting to prepare and I changed the lines once again in an effort to generate some needed goals. The girls took it from there!
Every girl gave it their all on every shift. Avery scored midway through the first with assists going to Aspen and Cayla who worked hard in front of the net to free up the puck - that's the kind of effort that wins games. Waterloo was held scoreless until the end of the second - no surprise, they are such a talented team. The game remained knotted until Avery found a seam and scored what Michelle called a 'gorgeous goal'. The team, bench, and stands were electrified! Waterloo threw everything at us for the final minute, just missing the net several times as Chloe scrambled to hold on for the victory. Congratulations to everyone, it was a true team effort that produced the win - wingers getting to the points and the net, centers getting back and working the puck around, defense keeping it all to the outside and protecting the net, and of course, our tender tandem playing their best. Well done, let's get ready for a couple of huge challenges this weekend with a good practice tonight!
