Preston International Champions!
The Novice Blue team travelled to Cambridge to participate in the Preston International Championship and came away with the Championship and some Hardware!
We started the tournament by defeating the London Nationals by a score of 8-0. We were off to a good start to the Tournament. Next up was the Hamilton Huskies. It was an intense gam where the lead was exchanged four times. We were down a goal in the 3rd period with only minutes left in the game and scored 3 quick goals to win the game 7-5.
Next up were the Fort Erie Meteors who we defeated 11-1 and even though the game was a bit one sided the boys were asked to work on certain fundamentals and they did what they were asked to to do the entire game.
The last game of the round robin was against the Kitchener White team. It was a good battle and the boys played well but lost the game 6-3.
The finals were set it was going to be us Kitchener Blue vs. Kitchener White. Kitchener White is a very good team that has gotten the better of us for most of the regualr season, so we knew it was going to be a tough game for us. We went through three periods of scoreless hockey. Scoring chances were exchanged on both ends but it would take overtime to determine the winner of the Novice AE Preston Internalnal Tournament.
Just a few minutes in to overtime Kitchener Blue put one in the back of the net to win the game and the Championship!!!! Gloves and sticks once again littered the ice winning our 2nd tournament of the year!!!
Our tournaments for the year are now complete. We played in four tournaments winning two of them and making it to the Semi Finals in another. It is a huge accomplishment to win one tournament is a season but to win two is fantastic and a testimony to the boys work ethic and determination.
