Early season team building and time investment pays off for the Major Atom MD Red Team
In less than two weeks from team selection these 9-10 year old boys quickly developed great friendships through lots of team building, strong team work ethic, several practices, various skill development sessions and two straight regular season wins.

The day after tryouts concluded they started their stretch of 17 straight days with their new team. On day two the team headed to Hockey One-On-One (aka Mr Lee) for the first of four sessions followed by more practices and shooting instruction at The Zone Waterloo as well as treadmill stride correction and RapidShot shooting accuracy training at G&G. Along with this jam packed skill development plan to start the season, they had a couple team meetings, started watching their team’s hockey video playlist, kicked off their team fitness challenge, attended a very informative Nutrition for Athletes in class workshop with their parents, and had a fun packed BBQ and Swim party while watching Canada win the semi-final World Cup hockey game on outdoor big screen.

After all this investment with a special thanks to their parents, the players were well prepared for their first away tournament at the end of September. On Thursday September 29th, the day before their first tournament as a team, all of the players joined the coaches on the Via Rail train from Kitchener to Belleville along with enjoying time together in downtown Toronto which included a team visit to the Hockey Hall of Fall. The train proved to be a great team bonding opportunity, allowed for one-on-one meetings with each individual player, and of course not to be overlooked was the magician that entertained the kids from Toronto to Belleville. Once in Belleville the pre tournament trip wrapped up with a city bus tour through Belleville and a team dinner at East Side Marios before joining their parents back at the hotel for a team swim and a good nights rest.

After experiencing their first loss as a team against the Russell Warriors on Friday to start off the tournament, the Major Atom MD Red team quickly rebounded from that experience winning 5 straight games to win the Bellville Tournament. After allowing 3 goals in each of their first two games against Russell and the Flamborough Sabres, the team when went on a stretch of over 160 minutes without allowing a goal against. The advantage continued to slide toward Kitchener after each game thanks to consistent team efforts, a commitment to their nutritional program and strong mental preparedness. In the end, the championship game provided the Major Atom MD Red team an opportunity to avenge for their first loss by this time defeating Russell 3-1, taking home their first tournament championship title of the year along with bragging rights for starting the season with a 7-1 record.

Congrats to our Major Atom MD Red team!
