Lady Rangers DS start off 2-0!
2 games in and 2 big team wins! Congratulations Lady Rangers! For a group of girls that has been made up from 3 different teams, it looks as though we have played together since day 1! Great start to the season! We are all very proud of what we have seen on the ice so far!

We have played 2 good teams so far and have had success in both games. Our goalie has come up big for us in some clutch situations and made some timely saves. Our D has done a fantastic job keeping the puck to the boards in our own end and clearing rebounds away. Smart decisions with the puck in our end have been a huge contribution to only allowing 4 goals over 2 games. The D have been making great breakout passes and knowing when and when not to pass the puck to our wingers has really limited turnovers in our zone. The wingers have done well coming down low to the boards to pick up passes and we have moved the puck well through the neutral zone.

I think our forwards bread and butter so far has been the relentless fore-check and pressure we put on the other teams when we are in the offensive zone. We haven't given them any space to move the puck out of their end and that has created numerous turnovers in our favor. The girls have been doing a fantastic job putting pucks to the net and scooping up rebounds. One thing I continue to preach to the girls is what to do when they don't have the puck. Read and react to the play and find the open ice in a passing lane, or go to the front of the net and get in a good hockey stance for a rebound. The girls have responded extremely well and we have been rewarded with 10 goals over 2 games.

If we want to continue with this success, we need to bring the same energy to practice as we do to our games. The teams we play are going to continue to get better. If we are going to improve, its important that we practice just as hard as we play. Teamwork, effort and determination=Success! Lets keep it going!

One final note-I just want to say that myself and the other coaches are extremely proud of how well our girls have come together and played so far. Its never an easy thing to get used to new teammates and try to find chemistry amongst each other in a short period of time, but this group of girls have handled the process seamlessly. We are looking forward to the rest of the season and continued growth as a team. Thanks to the coaches who have done a great job developing the girls in all areas, both in practice and games. Also, thanks to all the parents who have done the early morning practices and the early game time in Stoney Creek and all the other sacrifices that come along with the DS team. We couldn't make this work without you, and I hope your girls are thanking you as well. Thanks everyone!
