The Kitchener Jr Rangers MD Red team went to work on clipping the wings off the Cambridge Hawks with a 4 to 1 win in a rare Tuesday night game.

The win kept the Rangers undefeated and gave them 5 of 6 points against the Hawks who were eliminated from any chance of being in the play downs.

Daniel Gubbels scored his 40th and 41st goal on the season. His first goal, a beauty of a shot, was set up by Jacob Fisher and his second was from Carter Niall and Aydan Costello. The Rangers opened the scoring on the power play by Jacob Reid-Brant from Noah Park. Ryan McConnell put the finishing touches on a fantastic back and forth passing play with Nicholas Zammit.

Braxton Mathews recorded his 21st win on the season and put aside 17 shots in the game. As good as Kodi Blackshaw, Yianni Peppas, Kailum Belanic, Keenan Hack and Park were at keeping the Hawks outside, Mathews was equally good when challenged.

Logan Hock started his second game as a forward and his play was once again terrific. He was an aggressive fore checker and exceptionally accurate making passing to break the puck out. Connor Coughlin also had a great game and the feisty centre was buzzing the Hawks net and sticking up for his teammates when the rough play started in the final period.

Overall the Rangers players did a good job of playing with intensity but not allowing the Hawks to get them into playing the game the wrong way. The team showed class by not retaliating at times and unfortunately the same can not be said about some rival fans.

Next the Rangers will close the playoffs in Brantford against the 99ers and the Rangers will have to once again find the desire to win a basically meaningless game should they reach their goal in an undefeated playoff run.

Way to go Rangers and Rangers parents…..Rangers Lead the Way!
