Can/Am Montreal Challenge Cup Champions
The Kitchener Lady Rangers Midget A’s travelled to la belle province de Québec this weekend to play in the Can/Am Montreal Challenge Cup.

The ladies started play Friday afternoon against a lower seeded Scarborough Sharks. Scoring just thirteen seconds into the game the ladies utilized good face off selection as well as good puck movement to open with their first “W” of the tournament.

Penalties finally caught up to the ladies in game two. A first period “frappé à la tête” provided Sarnia with a 1 – 0 lead. With continued determination and the goalie pulled for the extra attacker, the ladies managed to tie it up with just nine seconds remaining in the third.

Needing a tie or win to advance to the finals, the ladies played a strong and quick London Devilettes. Opening the scoring just over two minutes into the first, the ladies quickly gave up the tying goal just twenty two seconds later. Trading two more goals in the second, the Lady Rangers held on in the third keeping the game tied at “three” to advance to Sundays finals against the Sarnia Lady Sting.

Taking a mid-first period lead, a D-Zone pass miscue had the game tied at one after the first. Not to be deterred, the ladies continued with their good weekend play netting an early second period marker which would prove to be the game winner. An empty netter with just forty seven seconds remaining sealing the tournament win!

Your hard work, effort and commitment to playing Lady Ranger hockey was appreciated. On behalf of the Kitchener Lady Rangers, our thanks to the London Devilettes (654), Sarnia Lady Sting and the Scarborough Sharks (809) for four great games of hockey.

As discussed throughout the weekend, qualifying for both LLFHL Playoff’s and OWHA Provincials will depend on what you did (or didn’t) learn during this weekends play. Good “choices and options” will remain our key to success however you are the only ones who can make them.  Challenge yourselves to do so every single shift.

On behalf of Bill, Dave, Sarah and Tim, congratulations on your tournament gold! Well done!
