LLFHL Playoffs - Round 1
The first round of the 2017 / 2018 Central West Division LLFHL playoffs are complete.

After 22 regular season games, the Kitchener Lady Rangers Midget “A’s” opened the first round of the LLFHL Central West Division playoffs against the Waterloo Ravens. Struggling with the Ravens throughout the season the ladies opened the series at home at Sportsworld. After a scoreless first, the ladies were able to capitalize on a Raven “miscue” to take a 1 – 0 lead into the break. The ladies held off some good third period pressure and with a late goal in the third took game one.

Ten days later, the Rangers met the Ravens at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex for game two. Although not scientific based, the first game post tournament is often a bit of a “tough” one. Game two was certainly no exception! Heavily out shot in the first the ladies somehow managed to weather the “Raven storm” and head into the break tied at “zero”. Penalty trouble kept the fans on the edge of their seats but with several minutes remaining in the third a beautiful F3 pass and quick release put the ladies up by one.  Some good defensive play coupled with some great hustle afforded the ladies “two” empty netter’s and the “W”.

As discussed, the ice doesn’t care what place you finished in. It only cares about who works the hardest and who wants it more. It’s not what you “did in the past” (or where you finished) that counts. It’s what you’re doing “now”.  Good teams find ways to win and while not pretty by any means, you found a way to do so in game two. We are certain a more concerted effort will be required to advance in the coming round.

Thanks to all the Ravens ladies for a well played first round. We know we are in for a heck of a battle for Provincial Qualifiers!!

On behalf of Bill, Dave, Sarah and Tim, congratulations on advancing to round two!
