The 2003 Seeded Minor Midget Kitchener Jr Rangers and Waterloo Wolves came together in a friendly off-ice challenge to collect new socks for those experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness as part of the 2018 Toasty Toes campaign. New warm socks are welcome and essential for people who are homeless or at risk. Toasty Toes started in 2013 by Sharon Gilroy-Dreher in honour of her mother. Now it's a region-wide campaign. Last year 32,400 pair were collected for those in need, this year's total will be announced soon!

The Toasty Toes campaign launched on October 10 and both teams got busy collecting socks at games, practices, and even on their porches. The teams met on Saturday, November 10 to drop off their donations. And while Waterloo did 'outsock' us 2:1, together the players and their families put socks on the feet of 1,318 people in our community!

The friendly competition between the Jr. Rangers and the Wolves proved in the end, that everyone is a winner. This group of young men learned about giving back and worked together for a cause bigger than themselves. Thank you to everyone who supported both teams over the last month.

A big KJR thank you to the companies that supported our sock drive, including Best Western Hotels & Resorts, Torlys Flooring and the Inn of Waterloo.  Also a special thank you Sharon Gilroy-Dreher, the organizer of Toasty Toes, for being a true community hero.
