Rangers Perfect on Day 2
The Kitchener Jr Rangers MD Blue team closed up the round robin without allowing a single goal against with a 5 to 0 win against the Brantford 99ers and a 7 to 0 win against the Hamilton Huskies White.

In fact, the Rangers have not been scored against in 3 straight round robin games in the Gretzky tournament.

Hayden Smith earned the shutout against the feisty 99ers and was rock solid for the Rangers. Smith made key saves early and late in the game and frustrated the 99ers.

The Rangers had a pair of power play goals to spark the offense. Evan Peori got things started from Keenan Hack and Noah Roden. Spencer Bulyaki scored the second from Jacob Reid-Brant and Connor Coughlin. Kodi Blackshaw scored from Aydan Costello and Peori. Reid-Brant scored from Coughlin and Bulyaki and Peori finished up the scoring from Costello.

Andrew Bishop took player of the Game award. Bishop played a smart and discipline game and as always was a leader for the team playing hard in front of his net and in the corners.

The Rangers defense deserves a lot of credit for the team’s success on Day 2. Noah Park and Connor Pinos were again stand outs.

Aiden Radatus recorded his 2nd straight shutout in the tournament by shutting the door on the Huskies again….this time the White team for the win.

Reid-Brant opened the scoring short handed after stripping the Huskies of the puck and undressing their goalie. Reid-Brant’s second goal in the game was set up by Coughlin and Bulyaki. Carter Schade also had a pair of goals for the Rangers. His first was on the power play and was set up by Blackshaw and Ethan Lafleur. His second goal was also set up by Blackshaw. Bulyaki had a nice goal from Reid-Brant and Coughlin and Coughlin added an unassisted goal.

Kailum Belanic played a fantastic game picking his spots and rushing the puck when needed and Jack Masters had his typical work horse game in full effect.

Tomorrow at 10:15am the Rangers will once again face the home team Brantford 99ers in the semi and will need to mirror the effort put forth in Day 2.

Go Rangers!
