October 12-14, 2018 - USA/Canada Cup – Fraser, Michigan.
The
Kitchener Lady Rangers, Midget AA team stepped out on the ice for their first
game of the USA/Canada Cup tournament on Friday at 1:15 pm. Playing
against The Milwaukee Jr Admirals the team was ready to show their
skills. After a steady first period assessment the team picked up their
speed to what we’ve seen so many times. Scoring with less than 4 minutes
remaining in the second period and getting their insurance goal late in the
third; the first game of the tournament ended in a 2-0 win. Game 2 also
finishing with a 3-0 win vs. OHA Prep, the team confidence and skill was on
display, a great game to watch.
Game 3 resulted in the third win of the tournament, 5-2 over Sault Ste Marie, putting the team in first for their division. With their fourth game in the round robin to go, and toughest challenge yet, the KLR battled hard against the 2018 National Champions, Chicago Mission. A tough 1-0 loss, but with each player putting their heart on the ice, your KLR walked out proud of their team game.
A final second place finish in their division brought the final battle of the weekend for the Bronze medal. The ultimate game of the tournament started out similar to the first, assessing the opponent in the first period seems to bring success for this team. Durham West buried the puck midway through the second period, KLR answered the call 2 minutes and 52 seconds later. The game sat tied until the end of regulation. A scoreless 5 minute, 4 on 4, overtime was a fast battle. Shoot out was the only way to settle this match, down to the third shooter – LADY RANGERS Win Bronze. A great finish with 22 teams from across North America.
