Provincial Bound
CONGRATULATIONS to all the Kitchener Lady Rangers Midget “A” players and staff for qualifying for the 2018 - 2019 OWHA Provincial Championships.

After “52” regular season, tournament, playoff and play down games, game “53” would prove to be the decider affording all the excitement that the parents and staff could handle! Opening the Provincial Qualifier round robin, the ladies played their first game against the Waterloo Ravens. A determined effort had the ladies taking the first game and the first “two” of “eight” points needed to qualify. Game two against the Cambridge Roadrunners was one of those “game time decisions” for many. Sickness, injury and infection had the coaching staff with five possible line ups before puck drop. Although a determined effort was put forth by all, the ladies just couldn’t put the many opportunities between the pipes.  Game three had the ladies as close to full strength as it was ever going to get. From the opening face-off until games end the ladies applied continuous pressure, generated many good scoring opportunities and continued to drive the bus. Their efforts were rewarded with their second “W” of the play downs, setting up an exciting game four “winner take all” against the Roadrunners. The ladies open up the final game with “many continuous” trips to the box. Solid play, good puck movement and great “PK” discipline kept the game scoreless after one. Working the puck on one of their first “PP” opportunities, the ladies capitalized and took a    1 – 0 lead into the break. With fifteen minutes remaining the ladies took a tough “five” literally one minute into the third. Hard work, sacrifice along the boards and a well-executed “systems of play” earned the ladies a well-deserved “W” and a trip to the 2019 Provincials.

Although some may “expect” to qualify yearly, it is something that should never be taken for granted. Your continued determined effort was the difference. That “continued effort” will take you a long way in life. A sincere thanks to the Cambridge Roadrunners and the Waterloo Ravens for four well-played qualifying games.

To our ladies, there are no guarantees going forth to Provincials. Anything can happen once you are there, which is the true importance of having met your goal in qualifying. If you continue your hard work and commit to playing Lady Rangers Hockey, you will compete against anyone. We hope you all believe in yourselves as much as we believe in each and every one of you. Together, you are truly a great “team”.

On behalf of Bill, Ken, Sarah and Tim, congratulations on being the "M" Region representatives for the 2018 - 2019 OWHA Provincial Championships. Whatever Provincial weekend may hold, please know that it has been a real pleasure for all of us to have been part of your 2018 – 2019 season.
