KLR Intermediate A Scores big with Toys for Needy Kids
This past week, the girls organized their annual Christmas "secret Santa" gift exchange.  The girls draw names and pick a toy that best represents an unique characteristic about the team mate they picked.  They then donate the toys to the Knights of Columbus Toys for Needy Kids toy drive at the Kitchener Fire Department Headquarters.  The team has been donating toys to needy kids for the last 4 years but this year was special because they got a full tour of the fire hall, trucks and life saving equipment and on top of that got some media attention from 570 news.

While they were at the fire hall, the girls exchanged gifts around the big Christmas tree in the lobby and then gathered for a photo with the fire fighters in front of the new pumper truck "P1".  They then issued a challenge to all KMHA teams to follow their lead next year and do a gift exchange and donate the toys to the toy drive.  This challenge caught the ear of the organizers of the toy drive and the next day, the team received an invitation for an interview on the Mike Farwell Show on 570 News to share their story of donating toys.  On Wednesday Dec 19, our Captain, Taylor Dobie and alternate Captain, Kristen Straus went to the 570 News studio and did an awesome job representing themselves, our team and KMHA.  If you want to hear the interview, the link is: https://www.570news.com/audio/the-mike-farwell-show/.  Scroll to 123.35 in the December 19 show.  Thanks Mike Farwell and 570 News !

The team would also like to thank Tom O'Hara and the rest of our awesome Kitchener Fire Fighters for their hospitality and giving the girls a taste of what it's like to be a fire fighter.  A few of the girls even got to don the full gear to feel the weight of the equipment the fire fighters have to carry in action.  Tom also gave an excellent talk on the importance of teamwork in fire fighting the how playing on a team prepares you for the team situations you will face in your careers.

The Kitchener Lady Rangers Intermediate A team hopes to continue this tradition and hopes other KMHA teams will pick up the challenge next Christmas.

Merry Christmas from the team and coaching staff.
