Regular Season Update!
The Minor Atom Jr. Rangers Red have now completed their regular season with a record of 20-4-2.
Finishing in second place they've now qualified for the Tier 1 playoffs combining the top teams from the East and West divisions!

Here’s an update of what the boys have accomplished since our last article.....

TOURNAMENTS

Our 3rd Tournament of the year was The Wayne Gretzky International Tournament over the Holiday season!
Both Kitchener teams were moved up to compete in the 'A' division and represented our City amazingly!
Game 1 was a 4-0 win over the Glancaster Bombers followed by a 1-1 Tie vs. Stoney Creek.
Game 3 was a hard fought game vs. London Jr. Mustangs where we came up short 5-2 but competed right to the end.
Our final round robin game was vs. the Cambridge Hawks. The boys played extremely well and came out with a 3-1 win, qualifying for the quarterfinal knock out round!
Our opponent was against the top ranked 'A' team in Ontario, New Hamburg Huskies.
The Rangers battled all game and held the Huskies to a one goal lead mid way thru the 3rd but unfortunately couldn't get the equalizer leading to a 3-1 loss.
The Huskies would go on to win the tournament but it showed the boys they're capable of competing and winning at the next level!
The Coaching staff and parents were extremely proud of the teams effort and commitment all tournament!

Our last season tournament of the year was in Bradford where again we moved up to compete in the Major Atom MD loop.
Everyone was excited about the challenge ahead and some more team bonding!
Game 1 was against the 2009 Cambridge Hawks where we came from behind to tie the game 3-3.
Game 2 was a 5-0 win vs. Victoria Village followed by a hard fought 2-2 tie vs. Faustina Fury.
The 4 points in the round robin gave us the opportunity to play for our third Championship of the year!
Again our opponent was the Faustina Fury where we went back and forth all game!
Tied 1-1 late in the 3rd it looked as though we were headed for overtime but unfortunately the Fury capitalized on a chance with 36 seconds left in the game, giving them the win.
Although the boys came up just short, they played great all weekend while facing some adversity.

These two tournament experiences have shown the players what's required to compete and win in Tier 1 and the Alliance Championships!

COMMUNITY GIVE BACK AND TEAM FUN!

Over the holiday season the Red Rangers spent a day visiting and singing carols to the residents at Doon Village Retirement Home!
The boys took their songs seriously and practiced over several nights with their choir coach Mrs. Montes. Their practice showed in their performance which also included two piano solos from Mateo!
Is was so nice to see the boys interacting with the residents and answering their questions, like “Are you the only girl on the team?”  lol

Thank you again to all the volunteers for setting up such a special day!

Another initiative the boys have taken part in this season is helping out our friend Reagan.
Reagan suffers from club foot and didn’t have the funds to pay for his corrective surgery.
Working with One for Another International charity group, the Rangers were able to sponsor Reagan and help him get the procedure he needs to live a healthy and active lifestyle!
The boys have been writing Reagan cards and notes of motivation to help him thru his surgeries but he’s the one who continues to inspire us!!
Can’t wait to get the next update on his recovery, way to go Reagan!!

Last Weekend, the Team took part in a very exciting event at the Scotiabank Arena!
As a regular season close out surprise, the boys were enrolled in the Toronto Maple Leafs Skills Clinic where they were able to skate on the same ice as the pros and practice in the same gym as the NBA Champion Toronto Raptors!
Walking around the players area under the stands and working with the Leafs staff is something the boys (and Parents) will never forget!

We’ve enjoyed a very successful and fun season so far leading up to the playoffs!
All the hard work and adversity has now set the stage for Tier 1 and the Alliance Championship and we know the boys will be ready to    CARE.  COMMIT.  COMPETE!
