Buffalo Winter Classic Tournament Weekend

Game #1, Friday morning we had an outdoor game against the number one ranked team in Ontario, Vaughan Rangers. It was an end to end game for all three periods with some really quality chances from both teams, unfortunately for the players the goalies played extremely well. The third period was very competitive and feisty but the end result was a deserved 2-2 tie for both teams.

Game #2, Friday afternoon was against a good skating team in the Greater Toronto Capitals. The game became very physical very quick with both teams seemingly not enjoying playing against each other. The third period the boys showed their quality and had a 4 goal third period, a 5-2 Win was well deserved from the effort they showed in the third period.

Game #3, Saturday evening against the Erindale Spitfires was 40 minutes delay on a 8:40PM game time after spending all day hanging around Buffalo waiting to play this game.  The boys did not come out and give their best effort and in the end the 2-4 loss was what we deserved in spite of Jackson's best effort to keep the puck out of the net.

Game #4, The Semi-Finals was a real gut check time for the boys, an outdoor, cold, windy and rainy early morning game against the Vaughan Rangers. The came out flying from the opening whistle, scoring at the 7:28, 6:10 and 5:40 of the first period.
Zack battled all game to keep Vaughan in check for three periods and in the end a 5-1 win was easily what was deserved and a game we called their best game of the tournament.

Game #5, The Finals against a local rival in Brantford with no surprises as we have played them twice this season. The game was end to end with chances from both teams for the entire three periods which resulted in a 2-2 tie game.
Overtime #1 - 5 on 5 for 4 minutes resulted in no goals but great saves by both goalies.
Overtime #2 - 4 on 4 for 4 minutes resulted in no goals and again with great saves and post hit by our boys.
Overtime #3 - 3 on 3 for 4 minutes resulted in a goal by Brantford with a 1:30 to go in the period.
A heart breaking loss with either team deserving victory and Brantford ultimately winning the tournament.

As a team we learned an incredible amount about each other this weekend against some very good opposition. The boys are playing some great team hockey at this time and they should be extremely proud of themselves, I know the coaches are.

Two tournaments so far this season and 2 finals losses. Friday another tournament arrives with the North York Knights Tournament (GTHL) and a chance to put being the finalist only title to bed.
