Hocktoberfest 12 Gold
Congratulations to all the Kitchener Lady Rangers Midget “A’s” who spent the weekend in Windsor for a well-deserved Hocktoberfest 12 tournament Gold!

The ladies started things off Friday afternoon vs. the Windsor Wildcats. A second period goal turned out to be all the scoring necessary to give the ladies their first two points of the weekend. Saturday afternoon had the ladies playing Little Caesars. A solid game “two” had the ladies picking up their second “W” of the tournament. Saturday evening had the ladies playing the host Lake Shore Lightning. In a game best described as a little sloppy and lacking flow, a second period “missed F3” gave the Lightning the only goal they would need to hand the ladies their first loss of the weekend. The ladies improved their play considerably during Sunday morning’s semi.  The first “goalie assist” of the season had the ladies taking a 1 – 0 lead in the first on a great shorthanded effort. Capitalizing on a third period power play opportunity and playing smart Lady Rangers Hockey, the ladies advanced to the afternoon finals.

Facing the home town Lake Shore Lightning, the ladies took an early 1 – 0 lead on a great individual effort. Smart “choices and options”, hard work and good pressure had the ladies up by “two” late in the third. Hockey (and life) requires continued hard work throughout the duration of the game. Letting the “foot off the gas” or taking “breaks” can often prove costly. Late in the third proved to be no exception. A momentary lapse in D-Zone coverage and a D-Zone turn over had the game tied at “two” heading to “OT”. Five minutes of “four on four” solved nothing and the ladies headed into the “exciting” OT shootout.

Exciting may not have done the shootout justice. Amazing goaltending at both ends resulted in saves on shots and deke attempts. Sixteen shooters (8 a side) solved nothing. Using a move that she “practices” at practice, the 9th Lady Rangers shooter proved to be “golden”.

Bill, Ken, Sarah, Tim and I would like to thank all the ladies for their hard work and efforts this weekend. Your determination, work ethic and many smart choices and options were evident throughout the weekend. We will continue to build on our current foundation but please know that we are pleased with everyone’s progress to date. Keep up your hard work. The “Gold” was truly well-deserved. On behalf of all the Midget "A" players and staff, we would also like to congratulate the Lady Rangers Peewee B's for their Gold medal win as well!

To the parents, thanks for your support and kind comments this weekend. Although we remain a work in progress, we hope you enjoyed the games and all the ladies efforts.
