Thanksgiving in Pittsburgh
The Lady Rangers Midget A’s traveled to Pittsburgh to play in the annual Pittsburgh Thanksgiving Classic.

The ladies started play Friday morning against the Windsor Wildcats.  Remembering that every “shot on net” is a good shot, the ladies came away with their first two points of the tournament with a 3 – 0 win. Twelve hours later (yes, not the best of schedules) the ladies played the hometown Armstrong Arrows. In a faster paced, more physical game, some great rebound work, a laser point shot, a Bobby Orr like rush as well as a “PP” marker, had the ladies taking their second two points of the day. Just over eight hours later (yes, not the best schedule) the ladies were back on the ice with a stronger, faster Brampton Canadettes. After a great start, the ladies found themselves down by one after an unfortunate “Rangers goal on the Rangers goalie”. Several more “miscues” turned a 1 – 0 game into a 4 – 0 loss. (Note to self, good teams will make you pay for your mistakes. Brampton made you pay dearly). Playing the Reston Raiders from Virginia in a “must win” game four of the tournament, a slow start would prove costly.  Although the ladies would have their third “W” of the tournament, finishing with “six” of a possible “eight” points, the Brampton “miscues” along with the slow “Virginia” start would prove costly. Percentages are a funny thing. A goal or two either way would have made all the difference.

Although there were several “moments of brilliance” in some aspects of your play, there were more prolonged periods with no flow, execution of systems and outright giveaways. Good “choices and options” will remain our key to success however you are the only ones who can make them. As discussed in the room, practices will be changing accordingly. Please remember what time of the year we are playing for and keep working hard.

On behalf of the Kitchener Lady Rangers, our thanks to the Windsor Wildcats, Armstrong Arrows (Pittsburgh), Brampton Canadettes and the Reston Raiders (Virginia) for four great games of hockey. Our congratulations to the Brampton Canadettes for their tournament win!
