Game#1: Saturday October 15th Eagles VS Bears
It was a beautiful evening for the 2022/2023 season opener…and what a game it was!! 12 strapping young men skated onto the ice looking a little more distinguished, slightly broader and a whole lot taller. The coaches on the hand; a little more tired and definitely sporting some more grey. None the less, everyone was feeling the energy of the first game.
In the first period with only 1:15 on the board, #14 Gavin scored the first goal!. This kid meant business!! Off that momentum, only 15 seconds later, right from the face off, #44 Ramcharan took the puck and put it in the net, with an assist from #23 Whalen. Dont let #44’s locks fool you, this is no pantene commercial, this kid was out for blood! Sadly, the Bears finished out the first period with 3 goals.
In the second period it was nothing but hustle! #9 Hancock started the period off with a 2 minute penalty for tripping. Tripping?! More like that Bear played dead! With only 1.33 left in the period #16 Horn scored a goal, assisted by #14 Gavin, tying the game up. Then 28 seconds later #66 Nanuti dumped one in, bringing the team back up in the lead. Grievously, the Bears tied it up with 24 seconds remaining.
Period 3 was a fight to the finish. #9 Hancock brought us back in the lead with a dandy of a goal. There was some head scratching after a strange confrontation in the corner with a Bear, but #66 Nanuti waited patiently for his stick to be coughed up. With 33 seconds left in the Game #14 Gavin, was at it again and scored his second goal of the night. This kid clearly wanted to be the first and the last thing that goalie saw.
Final Score: 6-4 Eagles
Later in the locker room, #14 Gavin was awarded the “Player of the Game Pylon” for his amazing game of 2 goals and 1 assist.
