In
this episode we will explore, our year end party, report cards, jersey return, practices,
time trials, and a final word on the season
Year End Party
Thank you to our social committee members who have
continuously put on outstanding events for all players, and parents too. Our year end party is no exception. Our year end party will be taking place at
Boston Pizza / King Pin located at 425 Bingemans Centre Dr, Kitchener on April
20 from 6pm – 8pm. Paige will send out more
info in the team chat.
Report Cards
Throughout the pandemic we lost the opportunity to have
parent/player/coach interviews and the accompanying report cards. We’re pleased to be reintroducing that for
interested families. We will be producing
take-home report cards and a quick 10 minute individual chat with each player. We’ll assess each player on Hockey Canada’s
dimensions like: skating, passing, puckhandling, shooting, checking,
coachability, leadership, and the mental aspects of the game. It will give the players an opportunity to
ask questions. We’ll look to celebrate
strengths for each player and provide some suggestions for improvement. We’ll post some dates/times in the team chat
to meet up at Activa. The post-season briefing
is optional. This is also an opportunity
to provide feedback to the coaches on how we can continue to improve.
Update: We have secured the Murray Fried Room at Activa Sportsplex from 6pm-9pm on April 12. Sign-up sheet will be out soon to select your time.
Jersey Return
If you could kindly wash and hang the jerseys on wire
hangers and bring them to any remaining ice times. We’ll bundle them up and return to KMHA. Let’s aim to have these all returned by April
4.
Practices
We currently have 4 remaining practices on the
schedule. We will continue with those
practices as planned to keep our athletes sharp for 2023/2024 tryouts. The remaining practices are optional. Please continue to notify a member of the
coaching staff if you are unable to make it.
Time Trials
KMHA provides a set of standardized tests to help our
athletes gauge their development throughout their minor hockey careers. It helps them assess their year-over-year
progression as well as how they stack up against their peers. We will be adding a 90 minute icetime over
the next few weeks where laser instruments will be used to measure each player
(and goaltender) throughout a series of standardized tests. Only your individual results will be shared
with you, but you will be able to see how you stack up against league/age/team
averages. A few years ago when we did
these measurements, we actually registered a faster team score for some drills
than the AA team; speaks to the dedication and skill of this group of
boys.
A Final Word
What an amazing season all around. We were blessed with an exceptional group of
athletes and parents to put together a fantastic season. To kick things off, we let a nail-biter slip
through 6 shootouts in the Cambridge Early Bird Tournament. We went undefeated in the round robin in the
Nazem Kadri London Tournament. We missed
out again on the Gold medal in the Raiders True Classic Cup again, losing by
only one goal to the Huskies in the final.
We won the “President’s Trophy” taking home first place in the regular
season. We then amassed a league record
10 ties in the playdowns, missing the Alliance Championship by only 2 points. We
raised several hundred dollars for a food drive for the Food4Kids program and
had way more fun than any other team in the league while doing it. The boys should be very very proud of an
outstanding season. My personal thanks
to every one of you for making this a great season!
