With
just two regular season games left to go and only four points separating 2nd
and 6th place, the Kitchener Lady Rangers hosted the Stratford Aces
in game #21 of the regular season.
Despite the importance of “game 21”,
the Lady’s got off to a terrible start (coach’s words) in the first. Several
missed D-Zone coverage assignments gave the Aces what appeared to be “absolute”
scoring opportunities. Although not tested much past the first twelve minutes,
those first period saves would prove to be key in the eventual game
outcome. Settling in for the second and
third periods, the Lady’s gave up few shots and no further scoring
opportunities. Just under three minutes into the third, a low point shot tip
provided the Lady’s all the scoring they would need to grab the “W” and “clinch”
a post season playoff spot.
Good teams find ways to win, and
you are a good team. The changes to the
playoff format this season meant that no games could be “taken off”. Every game
and every point mattered in an extremely tight division where it seemed that
any team could win against anyone on any given day. Clinching a playoff spot in
the second last regular season game proved just how close the division was. Congratulations ladies. Continue to work hard
every shift and execute those good choices and options that you are capable of.
Welcome to the post-season!
