With a “must win by 4” Provincial
Qualifying game #4, the Kitchener Lady Rangers had a mountain to climb.
Having gone from the driver’s seat simply
needing a win to now needing a “win by 4” the Lady’s found themselves with a
big mountain to climb. The number of games in girls’ hockey that actually score
“4” goals total is rare. Although “4” goals were scored on this rare occasion,
it was not the 4-goal differential that the Lady’s needed to advance to
Provincials.
The season was long, injuries are tough
and every time there is a lapse in coverage or responsibility, good teams will
make you pay. Although you worked hard throughout the season, there was simply
not enough buy in for our “choices and options” systems of play. The ability to
rely on structure ensures that the foundation is always supported and doesn’t
break down (defensively) and provides as much opportunity and pressure as
possible (offensively). We appreciated everyone’s personal efforts in the
mountain climb attempt.
On behalf of the Kitchener Lady Rangers
Players, Staff and Parents, our congratulations to the Cambridge Roadrunners
and Waterloo Ravens for their M – Region Provincial Qualifiers success. We wish
both of you good luck and look forward to watching your Provincial medal
success!
