Easter Gold
Easter weekend in Brampton provided the Kitchener Lady Rangers with their first “Gold” of the season!

Easter weekend found the Lady Rangers at the 48th Annual Brampton Canadettes Hockey Tournament. After three well played round robin games the ladies found themselves first in Pool C. The quarter final game had the ladies facing a tough opponent in the Burlington Barracudas. After a scoreless first, the ladies took a 1 – 0 lead in the second which would prove to be the eventual game winner. The semi-finals had the Lady Rangers facing their Central Division rivals, the home town Canadettes. Although playing a good portion of the first short-handed, the ladies weathered the Canadette attack keeping the score tied at zero. A nice top shelf shot by Ms. McCrory would prove to be the eventual game winner as the ladies moved to the finals against an also undefeated Ancaster Avalanche. The Lady Rangers stepped up, controlled the play and put on a very entertaining, physical, hard working game of hockey that was both a pleasure to watch and coach. Making many good “Choices and Options” afforded a great F1 to F2 pass that Ms. Frey buried top shelf. Great defensive zone coverage on both sides lead to the lowest shots on goal (for and against) all season. The first “Golden egg” of the season was well-deserved for all.

Many thanks to the Mississauga Chiefs (0-0), Toronto Leaside (1-0), Oakville Hornets (2-0), Burlington Barracudas (3-0), Brampton Canadettes (3-0) and the Ancaster Avalanche (2-0) for six great games of hockey. For Brampton and Oakville, we look forward to seeing you next weekend at Provincials and wish you both good luck.

As discussed Friday, this weekend was not about winning the tournament but rather working through the final stages of our preparation for next weekend, when the games truly count. You started slow but improved game by game to play at a level that will have you compete for a Provincial gold next weekend. One more week of hard work ladies. Success doesn't come to you, you go to it. And you are well on the way!

Congratulations on your continued development over six games of Lady Ranger hockey and a well-deserved Easter “Gold”.
