Player of the game
We finally have access to our website. I (Jeff Merkus) writes the player of the game articles. I am a master of the Inglish language, but just in case I say something dumb don't blame Spencer.
If you haven't seen yet we have a gold jersey to wear at practice and a championship belt to wear wherever for our player of the game. We have had 6 games but only 3 winners so far due to the separation of the first two games and a back to back game.
Amberly was our first recipient of the belt. Defence converted to forward and 2 goals in a game. Normally goals are not the benchmark for this award but her figuring out how playing aggressively as a forward in her third game was fairly impressive.
Our second recipient of the belt was Jocelyn. We requested in the game that our girls focused on playing their position. Jocelyn has made adjustments to her position that the coaches have asked of her. She always seems to be in the right area. We girls play their position it makes it easy for the coaches to help the girls reach that next level.
Courtney now holds the belt for her solid defensive play, hard on the puck, covering for their D partners, knowing when to be aggressive and when to pull back, angling girls away from the net. I believe it has been hard for our defence to get into a groove with a defence partner. We are always switching defence partners due to having only 5 defence. It should make the defence better as they will come to understand what they can and cannot do with certain types defence partners. Courtney has figured out their role depending on the style of their defence partner and this is not easy.
