KMHA House League Championship Tournament - RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Upon completion of Round Robin play, teams will advance as per schedule.
- There will be no overtime in any game except the final seeding, semi-final and championship games. See Overtime Rules on next page for details.
- Standard Alliance and KMHA rules apply regarding suspensions. If a player is assessed a 5-minute major for fighting, that player will be suspended for the rest of the tournament (unless the other player was assessed an instigator\aggressor penalty).
- Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and zero (0) points for a loss. A team will forfeit if they do not have enough players at the scheduled start time as per KMHA rules. The score of the game will be 1-0.
- In the event that a game cannot be started on-time due to any issue (i.e. power outage, ice surface issues, etc.), the Tournament Director at their sole discretion may elect to either delay the start time and play the game in its entirety or shorten the allotted game. If the game must be cancelled it will be declared a 1-1 tie.
Initiation Division – Scores are not kept or posted during games.
Alliance Divisions - All goals scored will count in factoring final standings for determining teams that advance for all divisions above U9.
Games with a 5-goal differential will play the third period as run time until this differential is less than 5 goals. This includes semi-finals and finals.
Games can begin up to 15 minutes before their scheduled start time, at the discretion of the Convenor. Please ensure teams are ready.
Game Lengths
U7/U8 – All games will be cross or half ice with 2, 22 minute runtime periods (1:30 buzzer).
U9 AND Above - All games will be 10:00 – 10:00 – 10:00 minute stop time periods.
Time Outs
- No time outs will be granted in any round robin or semi-final games.
- 1 - 30 second time out will be allowed in the final Championship game.
Playoff Round Tie-Breaking Procedure
a) If two teams are tied, then the result of the round robin game involving the two tied teams will apply. The winner of the round robin game between those teams will advance. If teams played more than one game the team achieving the most points for wins and ties will advance (not goals)
b) If two or more teams are tied at the end of the round robin, the teams with the best goal average would qualify. The goal average of a team is determined by adding the goals for and against together and dividing that total into the goals for, with the team having the highest percentage winning the higher position.
Example: for – 10 goals for – 4 goals against, percentage 10/ (10 +4) = 0.714
c) If the teams are still tied, then the team with the most wins would qualify.
d) If the teams are still tied, then the team to qualify would be the one that scored the
first goal in the game between the two teams (applies if only two teams are tied).
e) If the teams are still tied the team that gave up the least number of goals would qualify.
f) If the teams are still tied, then the team to qualify would be the team that received the least penalty minutes throughout the round robin.
g) If the teams are still tied after all the previous methods have been applied, then the winner of the playoff spot will be determined by a single toss of a coin.

THERE ARE NO LINE CHANGES PERMITTED IN OVERTIME. IF THERE IS AN INUJRY, TEAM MAY SUBSITUTE WITH ANY PLAYER WHO IS NOT PLAYING ANY OF THE FIRST 3 ROUNDS OF OVERTIME.
If there is a penalty in any Overtime Round, a penalty shot is awarded to the opposing team. For any minor penalty, 1 (one) penalty shot will be awarded to the opposing team. Major Penalty in overtime 2 penalty shots will be awarded to opposing team.
Any player on the ice at the time of the infraction may take the shot.
In the event of coincidental or offsetting penalties in the same stoppage in play, penalty shots will be taken simultaneously. If there is no winner after the awarded penalty shots, play will continue.
Any penalized player during the overtime rounds is required to go to the penalty box and is no longer eligible for any further overtime rounds or shoot outs. The player will be substituted from the bottom of the shoot out list. The replacing player will be removed from the shoot out round.
Any player with time remaining on a penalty at the end of regulation will remain in the penalty box for the entirety of the overtime and will be ineligible to participate. The penalized player will be added to the bottom of the shoutout list. If the player was to participate in the first three rounds of the overtime they will be replaced by the player at the bottom of the shoot out rounds.
If a team takes a bench minor during regulation and the player is still in the penalty box at end of regulation this player will just go back to their position on the list as we will not penalize a player for a bench penalty.
Any player that receives any three penalties in one game shall be ejected upon receiving the third penalty. If the game goes to overtime the player will be substituted from the bottom of the shootout list.
No protests will be accepted. The Tournament Committee's decision will be final.
