Gold Jersey Week 16 and 17
Kiara (solid defensive play and looking before passing) and Ella (great defense positional play and aggressive in the offensive zone) are our latest gold jersey winners. The girls played a great game today.
We had a conversation with the girls before the game for the forwards to play aggressive and the defense to play solid defense. Protect our end first and take advantage of the offensive opportunities that the other team gives you. I thought they did a great job. We just couldn't take advantage of the mistakes that the other team gave us. There were some small things that girls need to work on. Playing the better teams will and did show some of the chinks in our armour. Molly had great form today and it showed in some of the stops she made including a great glove save. That was the top team in the league in the first half and only losing 2-0 is a great testament to how well they played.
Being up in the A division there is more pressure (maybe not the right word) to play good. I do put some pressure to win but I hope the girls hear the bigger message that all we are asking of them is to play hard and have fun. The more fun they have, the harder they will work and the wins should take care of themselves.
I am so proud of our girls and look forward to helping them grow as hockey players.
Communication is a great thing. I would like to use a discussion that Chloe , her mother and I had after the game today for about 10 minutes. I don't remember who started the conversation but Chloe and her mom had some questions/concerns about her play and what she should be doing on the ice. Chloe has some great fundamental knowledge about where she should be on the ice. Sometimes it is just a matter of discussing what to do in certain situations. I love talking shop and I just wanted to let everyone know if you do have any questions please feel free to talk to me. I would suggest after a game or practice is the best time.
