The
Kitchener Lady Rangers U18 “A’s” travelled to Cambridge for the first game of
the 2023 / 2024 M-Region Provincial Qualifiers.
Starting the first with several good shifts, the Lady’s were rewarded with a late period rebound goal. After giving up several breakaways in the second, the Lady’s were fortunate to score on another late period net front point shot scramble to take a lead heading into the break. A misunderstanding about staying out of the box in the third put the Roadrunners within one with just over seven minutes left in the game. Smart play, several key face-off wins and using their “200 foot” friend gave the Lady’s their first “W” of the Playdowns.
As much as the game sheet doesn’t say “highlight reel goal”, it doesn’t say what kind of “win” it was. What matters is the “W” but you cannot give up several of the opportunities that did due to breakdowns in coverage (who would you owe the wine to?). You must remember your roles and responsibilities every time you are on the ice, and we must stay out of the box. Every shift and ever shot (especially those that miss the net) counts right up to the end of those forty-five minutes.
