Introducing the Doug Jarrett Memorial Tournament

Hi Ranger Families.
You may have noticed an addition to our schedule in January. I wanted to provide an update about why we’ve scheduled a second tournament in January. We enrolled in the Doug Jarrett Memorial tournament as a bit of a hedge. There was a ruling released by the OMHA barring Alliance MD teams from OMHA sanctioned tournaments. The thinking was that an AE team (OMHA) wasn’t a direct competitor to an MD (Alliance) team. After securing a spot, Oshawa minor hockey had to reject our application, complying with the OMHA ruling. However, the province’s governing body, the OHF has since stepped in to clarify that Alliance teams may in fact enroll in OMHA tournaments. So, we’re hoping to get back into the Oshawa tournament but have the London one as a hedge. Ideally, we are able to do both! In the meantime, please hold both dates. A special thanks to Trainer Scott for all the hard work going back and forth with our league officials and those in Oshawa. Also, a shout out to our hard working KMHA staff who are advocating on our behalf to regain entrance into the Oshawa tourney.
Back to the Doug Jarrett Memorial tournament now taking place January 28-30, 2022. Given an increase demand for hotels, not only in sports, we had to try and snag some accommodations. We were able to secure a hotel for the tournament, but the best we could swing was Woodstock. Families need to secure their hotel should they wish to stay down before November 30, at which time our block of rooms will be released.

We will update everyone as quickly as possible as soon as we have a definitive answer on the Oshawa tournament so you can plan accordingly. If Oshawa moves forward, we’ll send a separate link for Oshawa/Whitby area hotels. Stay tuned.
