The U13 Blue Kitchener Lady Rangers secured a hard fought 5-3 win against the Leaside Wildcats Red in the Championship game of the Stoney Creek Sweetheart tournament, held January 31 – February 2, 2025. The win capped off an incredible weekend in which the team went undefeated with a record of 2-0-1 in the pool round before navigating the semi-finals and championship games.
In the championship game the Lady Rangers grabbed an early lead before being matched by Leaside to end the first period tied. As the game grew more intense, and injuries accumulated, the Lady Rangers took control adding 4 more goals in the 2nd period offset by only 1 from Leaside. In the 3rd frame defense and goal-tending took over, limiting Leaside to just one more despite a strong push and barrage of shots on net.
The win capped off an incredible weekend in which the coaching staff praised the girls for executing on positions, passing and intensity. The parent community was also amazing, providing unending support and encouragement while bringing the noise from the stands.
The Kitchener Lady Rangers now return with high expectations for the remainder of the season, expecting to build on the incredible progress they’ve made while closing out the year as a KGLL Pool A contender. Amazing win ladies – let’s go crush the playoffs!
