Kitchener Midget AA Lady Rangers team is once again in good hands this year
with Coach Jeff Sittler back behind the bench for his fifth year as MAA coach. He will be joined by Greg Moses and Jamie
Dinsmore as his assistants on the bench.
The 2018/2019 team welcomes 9 new faces to the mix, with players joining
the program from Bantam, Midget and Boys hockey. As a result, team bonding, chemistry and goal
setting is job number one heading into the season.
The team’s first official event of the year had nothing to do with ice, skates or sticks. Instead the Midget AA Lady Rangers made the quick trip up the road to Boler Mountain in London on a Saturday morning in late August to complete the 5K Foam Fest Run. Race organizers guaranteed that participants would be foamy, muddy and wet by the end of the 5K race. They did not lie! With obstacles that included The Foam Pit, The Body Washer and the Mud Crawl it did not take long before the bright blue Lady Rangers T shirts were completely unrecognizable! What was visible however, was how quickly this event brought the girls together. As a team they ran, laughed, struggled, slipped and fell - all the while encouraging and helping one another to complete the challenging course. Adding to the excitement and positive energy of the bonding experience was the participation of Coach Jeff and his Assistant Greg as they both took on the course alongside their players. And much to the girls delight…Coach Jeff’s sunglasses are still somewhere buried in that mud pit…..
In the afternoon the MAA players and families enjoyed lots of laughs recounting the 5 K Foam Race – which benefits the Make A Wish Foundation - and great hospitality with Coach Jeff and his wife Nancy hosting a pool party at their house. This was also a time for the players to come together, get to know each other a little better and talk about what they hoped to accomplish as a team this year. The results of the early season team bonding and training will soon be put to the test at the Stoney Creek Midget AA Showcase Tournament in September. If the MAA Lady Rangers can come together on the ice like they did on the course in London then almost anything is possible for this year’s team!
