So Close Yet So Far
The Kitchener Lady Rangers U18 A’s completed their six game home and home playoff series with the Saugeen Maitland Lightning, Woolwich Wild and Waterloo Ravens.

After opening game one with a 3 – 0 win over the Wild, the Lady’s would go on to play five games in the next nine days. Game two was a solid game against the Lightning with goals scored in all three periods. Coming off their second playoff win, the back-to-back game three against the Lightning was not as friendly to the Lady’s. Little talk and too much watching with everyone looking tired, would ultimately be the game that proved costly for the Lady’s. Although every point is a good point, in a tight playoff race, two would have been better. Game four against the Wild started very strong with the Lady’s capitalizing on two PP opportunities. Up by several goals late in the third, some sloppy play put the Wild right back into the thick of things, but the Lady’s were able to hold on for the “W”. Game five was an entertaining game with the Ravens. Unfortunately, the Lady’s were not able to capitalize on a great 1st period of opportunity. Strong play had the Lady’s coming back late in the third to tie the game at 1. Game six would be the deal breaker. Needing a win or a tie to solidify their playoff advancement, some missed assignments along with several weak goals gave the necessary three of four points to the Ravens to advance.

We have discussed this many times throughout the season. You must take the opportunity to “finish” things yourselves and not have to rely on others to get the job done for you. It’s hard to imagine that one playoff loss would eliminate you but in the competitive world of (hockey, University admissions, job interviews, promotions) one misstep can have unfortunate consequences.

Our congratulations to the Waterloo Ravens on their advancement to the second round. We wish you continued success in what has been a great season of hockey for you!
