Silver Stick Champs
REGIONAL SILVER STICK CHAMPS!!!!
What a ride!!
The ride started this past Thursday morning at 8:00 am and ended Monday morning at approximately 2:00 am - all courtesy of Great Canadian.
However, there was so much more to this ride than a chartered bus!! In between we bonded with team dinner's, karaoke, shut the box and watched football and attended an OHL game.
The bus rolled all the way to Sudbury where players and families were fortunate to catch up with relatives and KMHA alumni who have moved on to play JR hockey in the area. Hockey aside, it was an eventful and unforgettable weekend. Factor in hockey, it was magical and memorable.
In our first two games, we beat the Soo Greyhounds 5-4 and Flamborough Sabres 8-3.
On Saturday we faced the Mississauga North Stars team and lost 4-1. This loss, had our backs against the wall and put us in a must win situation. These Rangers played with heart and determination to come out on top 4-2 against North York Knights and secure Sunday hockey!
IN the semi final, the boys came in confident with the lessons learned from previous losses and knew what it was going to take to win. The Rangers played an impressive game and beat the second ranked team in Ontario, Burlington Eagles 4-1.
In the finals, the Rangers had a rematch with the Mississauga North Stars. The boys could not forget the game that was played the day before and craved scoreboard retribution.
This group played inspired hockey and took a 1-0 lead in the early part of the second period.
The Stars scored with just under 4 minutes left and forced OT.
OT started 3 v 3 with 10 minutes on the clock. 27 seconds later, the boys were celebrating as Carter Whissell scored the winner on an absolute rocket of a shot!!!
The boys battled all weekend and conquered all adversity thrown at them.
Winning the Sudbury Regional Silver Stick EARNED the Rangers the honor of competing for the International Silver Stick in January.
What a ride, but the job's not done!!!
