Kitchener U18 Seeded 2025-2026 Outline
Welcome to the 2025-26 Season!

My name is Paul Sinclair and I'm excited to be back with KMHA for my 7th year as coach of the U18 AA Kitchener Jr Rangers team.

This letter provides some information about my coaching philosophy, evaluation/tryout process and the season plan.

171-68-35 Record in last 6 years.

Coaching Philosophy

Team sports are a vital part of an individual's growth, development, personality and character. For me, Hockey is an excellent way to teach many life lessons that will help a young athlete excel as they mature, while playing the game they love. Teamwork, unselfishness, discipline, respect, friendship, accountability, work ethic and fair play are all skills that I've developed from hockey and want to share these learnings through my hockey program.

Coaching Principles

There will be 3 primary rules for the team:
1. Listen and be respectful at all times
2. Always work your hardest and compete
3. Maintain a positive growth mindset. Our goal as coaches is to develop each player's skills and tactics through high tempo, high repetition and well designed practices. My staff are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, consistent, hardworking and organized. We are all about the team and team play.

Evaluations and Tryouts

Team first will be the driving force for selecting this team. In addition to identifying strong skating, physical and skilled players, my evaluators will be asked to identify intelligent, selfless players who will be hard working with above average compete levels. The evaluation panel will be composed of several Non-Parent independent evaluators to ensure objective measurement of all players.
The dates and times for the tryouts are now posted on the KMHA site. Selection preference will be given to players who are positive, disciplined, unselfish, good listeners, follow instructions well, Buy in, who are team players.
Final player selections will be based on a combination of on-ice practice sessions, Exhibition games, discussions with previous coaches, team identity and final player meetings.

Season Plan

This team will require significant time and financial commitment.
> 2-3 league games per week
> Team Practices (Tuesday 9:15-10:45)
> Off ice training
> Video Review

At the U18AA level, it's very important to recognize the players Academic and work commitments when designing a Season Plan and training schedule. For the coaching staff, we'll streamline each of the training components to minimize the number of nightly trips to the arena.

There will be 5 tournaments, 3 local and 2 out of town.

Team travel for one of the away tournaments will be via Coach Bus.

Financially, on top of KMHA registration and tryout costs, families can expect team fees around $2500-$3000 depending on the level of team fundraising or sponsorship that can be secured.

I understand the responsibility that comes with being a minor hockey coach. Us coaches, invest a lot of time and energy into delivering a high quality program for all players and parents. In return, my expectation is for 100% player and family's buy-in. If you have any questions, you can contact me directly. Email: [email protected]

Good luck to all at tryouts

Our friends at Toyota continue to support Kitchener Minor Hockey by returning as a House League Gold Sponsor yet again for this season. Toyota also sponsors the Toyota Challenge featuring teams from the region in competition and the opportunity to travel to Japan. The Toyota Hockey Challenge consists of round robin competition amongst top Kitchener, Waterloo & Cambridge teams, with the top two teams then competing in a one-game show down that will determine the team to represent the Tri-Cities in a once-in-a-lifetime cultural exchange to Japan. The team that wins the Toyota Hockey Challenge will travel to Hokkaido, Japan during March Break for a cultural exchange with the Tomakomai Allstars, all expenses paid by TMMC. Thanks Toyota!

Sun Life Kids In Gear
Donna's Kids is pleased to partner again for 2019/2020 season with Sun Life and their Kids In Gear program. Kitchener Minor Hockey Association, as part of their mandate, provides financial support for children in this community who, without our assistance, would not be afforded the opportunity to participate in organized hockey in the City of Kitchener. Monies for this cause have been donated by various individuals and organizations over the years, however with increasing demands we have the need to provide further support for this program. One hundred per cent of the funds raised by KIDS IN GEAR are channelled directly to purchase equipment for children.
