Introducing the U14 BB/B Red Jr Ranger Coaches

The team is led by head coach Dave McCowan. Dave has been involved with coaching hockey going back to initiation hockey and most recently has led the BB/B Kitchener Jr Rangers to back-to-back Alliance Championships at Tier 1. Dave is a Recreation Therapist that supports children and youth in mental health and pairs those clinical skills with his passion for competitive hockey to develop ‘complete’ hockey players. Dave fosters a culture within his coaching staff that aims to actively strive to understand the athlete, their individual strengths and goals, and then support them to work hard in applying their strengths to the team’s goals, and establish a winning culture fueled by motivated athletes. Effective communication with players and families, remaining open to feedback, building confidence and self-efficacy, emphasizing a team-first approach, focusing on a balance between hard work and fun, are all priorities. Dave prepares well-paced and engaging practices where coaches actively teach right in the moment.

Working right alongside Dave, for the past two years, is defensive coach Mike Ryan. Mike has a long-standing head coaching career from initiation right up to the seeded level. Most recently, Mike has led the league best d-core for the past two consecutive seasons.

Dave and Mike are both lifelong students of the game, continually focused on how the game is changing and where it is headed. They remain resilient about how best to develop young hockey players, and how to support their identity as a hockey player through participation in continuous learning. Dave and Mike commit themselves to bringing a well-informed, carefully thought out plan each season and to each individual practice and game along the way. They believe excellence comes with connectivity on and off the ice. This means having consistent messaging from the leadership group (coaches), everyone understanding their job within the team, and everyone pulling in the same direction.

Dave and Mike are supported each year by experienced coaches with excellent hockey acumen. The team is very excited to have secured their goalie-specific personnel for the 2025-26 season which will ensure another year of exceptional goaltender development.

Sun Life Kids In Gear
Donna's Kids is pleased to partner again for 2019/2020 season with Sun Life and their Kids In Gear program. Kitchener Minor Hockey Association, as part of their mandate, provides financial support for children in this community who, without our assistance, would not be afforded the opportunity to participate in organized hockey in the City of Kitchener. Monies for this cause have been donated by various individuals and organizations over the years, however with increasing demands we have the need to provide further support for this program. One hundred per cent of the funds raised by KIDS IN GEAR are channelled directly to purchase equipment for children.

Timbits
The Timbits Minor Sports Program is a community-oriented sponsorship program for children four to eight years old who participate in local house league sports teams. The program's philosophy is not based on winning or losing - but on learning a new sport, making new friends, and just taking time out to be a kid. Tim Hortons currently sponsors over 200,000 children who play on hockey, soccer, lacrosse, t-ball, baseball and ringette teams across Canada and in the United States. Each sponsored team is supplied with Timbits Minor Sports jerseys or T-shirts. Timbits hockey teams are often given the opportunity to play on-ice scrimmages during intermissions at Junior, American Hockey League (AHL) and National Hockey League (NHL) games and do so with our own KITCHENER JR. A RANGERS. Tim Horton's once again sponsor's our 40 entry level HL teams this year.
