We have a request in for additional ice to the City (along with likely every other KMHA team!).  Should hear back in August.  We also are inquiring in some other facilities (Cambridge, Woolwich, U of Waterloo).  We are hoping to put a framework/plan together as part of the team budget presentation.  We will also check on ice that comes up through KMHA during the course of the season.

TEAM SOCIAL
We’re getting together in a couple weeks for some more team (and parent) bonding.  Aug 14 from 6pm-8pm we’re getting together to play some flag football.  It’s one of the fastest growing sports.  It just got added as an official sport for the 2028 Olympics and will feature some NFL players.

We’ll teach the boys the rules, do some drills to help with fundamentals  (ie pulling flags) and then we’ll move into a fun exhibition game or two.   We’ll bring all the equipment necessary.

WEBINARS
We’ve added two webinars to help save precious on-ice time to go over our basic team strategy.  Although Hockey Canada suggests we continue to focus on individual skill, we all still need a shared vision on simple plays like breakouts, zone entries, special teams and our infamous forecheck.   We’ll also draw up some of our favourite skill drills so the players can mentally prepare and to maximize on-ice development.  We’ll put the webinar links into the team chat a couple weeks beforehand.

Sponsors
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada
Our friends at Toyota continue to support Kitchener Minor Hockey by returning as a House League Gold Sponsor yet again for this season. Toyota also sponsors the Toyota Challenge featuring teams from the region in competition and the opportunity to travel to Japan. The Toyota Hockey Challenge consists of round robin competition amongst top Kitchener, Waterloo & Cambridge teams, with the top two teams then competing in a one-game show down that will determine the team to represent the Tri-Cities in a once-in-a-lifetime cultural exchange to Japan. The team that wins the Toyota Hockey Challenge will travel to Hokkaido, Japan during March Break for a cultural exchange with the Tomakomai Allstars, all expenses paid by TMMC. Thanks Toyota!
Sun Life Kids In Gear
Donna's Kids is pleased to partner again for 2019/2020 season with Sun Life and their Kids In Gear program. Kitchener Minor Hockey Association, as part of their mandate, provides financial support for children in this community who, without our assistance, would not be afforded the opportunity to participate in organized hockey in the City of Kitchener. Monies for this cause have been donated by various individuals and organizations over the years, however with increasing demands we have the need to provide further support for this program. One hundred per cent of the funds raised by KIDS IN GEAR are channelled directly to purchase equipment for children.
