First Loss of the 2025 Season
Never judge the score as the sole indicator of team play.
The Lady’s welcomed the Saugeen-Maitland Lightning in their first meeting of the regular season. Just under five minutes into the first, a low point shot on net (one I’m sure the goalie would like to have back) put the Lightning up by one. Capitalizing on their first power play of the game, the Lady’s tied it at one just four minutes later. The second saw heavy action for Saugeen’s goaltender. Out shooting and out chancing the Lightning, strong goaltending kept the score at one heading into the break. An unfortunate penalty call at the end of the second (either blow or don’t, it can’t be both ways) saw the Lightning capitalize on their second PP of the game early in the third, which would end all the games scoring, handing the Lady’s their first loss of the regular season.
There are some games you should never win (or tie in the Leaside games case), and some you should never lose. This was the latter. This was probably your most complete game of the season to date. You generated lots of opportunity, executed many parts of our systems of play very well, out chanced and out shot but simply didn’t “out score” Saugeen. This is the kind of effort that is required every game. Your challenge in reaching this level is making sure there is no going back. No disappointment here ladies. This was a well-played game.
