The Bombers played their second game in as many days, and did not disappoint their fans with a hard-fought, energetic 4 – 2 win.
The team displayed the same work ethic as the Saturday game against the Inferno, where the team kept the puck in the Phantom end for extended periods, allowing for many scoring chances. Todd scored early in the first, with tons of pressure from Paisley, Schleimer, Hammell & Pearson.
Thornton takes the honours for the second goal – the play starts with Starr carrying the puck deep into the Phantoms end. Surrounded by 4 Phantoms, Starr spins around looking for an escape but loses the puck. Paisley grabs it, passes up to Thornton, who shoots, chases the puck down and scores. Awesome teamwork to the Bombers involved in this goal.
Todd scores the third goal after picking up a puck near the Phantoms blue line. He drives it to the net, drawing the goalie to one side as he passes and dumping it into the open side.
Goal 4 was scored by Starr. Shortly after a faceoff in the Phantoms end, the puck is banked off the boards and intercepted by Starr. He fires it from the blue line and gives the Bombers a great insurance goal to finish off the game.
Schleimer earns the first Smart Play award, for quick thinking, smooth hands and being in the right defensive position to prevent the Phantoms from scoring on Chaytor. The play happens early in the second period, when the Phantoms take a shot on Chaytor; he makes the initial save but the puck remains dangerously loose in the goal crease. Schleimer springs to action and clears the puck, preventing any rebounding goal. Way to go Schleimer!
