The Kitchener Lady Rangers travelled to Fergus for their
season opener against the Grand River Mustangs.
The Lady’s came out strong in the first scoring early and scoring often. A record “three” power play conversions had the Lady’s up by four after the first. The second period bore no resemblance to the first. Five consecutive penalties had the Lady’s playing short for two thirds of the period. Heading into the third, two goals nine seconds apart for the Mustangs kept the crowd on both sides on the edge of their seats. Despite coming within one, Abby “Austin” Wells completed her hat trick with just under five left in the game to seal the first “W” of the season.
We appreciate that this was the first game with all three set lines (welcome back to Ms. Court and welcome to Ms. Schweitzer) but you must focus on those “good habits” every shift. Scanning (with and without the puck), communication and NOT giving the puck away are all things that have to happen EVERY SHIFT. Please do not lose the lesson in tonight’s game. It is a valuable one, both on and off the ice.
On behalf of Tim, Sarah and Ken, congratulations on your first “W” of the 2023 – 2024 season.
